Catherine, Princess of Wales, is preparing to return to royal duties, amid a challenging time for the family.

While Catherine is slowly making her way back into the public eye following news of her own health, the Queen was absent from a number of royal engagements yesterday following a successful tour of Australia and Samoa. Despite the difficulties, the royal family will reunite privately. It is well known that they have a close relationship, especially Catherine with her husband's family, King Charles and Queen Camilla. This Sunday, these royals, along with thousands of others, will pay tribute to war heroes at a ceremony in Whitehall, London. The event will begin at the Cenotaph, where a wreath of red poppies, symbolising the devastation of war, will be laid.

The gesture is deeply meaningful to the British crown and many other royals have joined in to pay their respects. Poppies are worn to commemorate those who died in World War I and other conflicts. Notably, the Princess wore three poppies, which has become her signature choice over time. One theory is that she wears them to commemorate family members who served and died. Last year, she wore an elegant black outfit on Remembrance Sunday, which featured a striking poppy arrangement.

If you want to emulate this style, options start from £5, as it incorporates three red poppies. For a more elaborate tribute than the paper poppies, the Royal British Legion store offers a stunning new range of brooches and pins for both men and women. Each flower is linked to the others, symbolising remembrance, sacrifice and gratitude. Her great-grandmother had three brothers who died in World War I. During a 2018 visit to the Imperial War Museum, she examined letters from her ancestors detailing their roles in the war.

While the palace has never officially explained why Catherine wore so many poppies, her personal connection added meaning to her choice. Nine weeks after the late Queen's death, there was a noticeable gap on the balcony where she had stood. This caused Camilla stress, leading to one of her most high-profile public appearances since Charles became king. However, Catherine was there to support. Over the years, Catherine has often spoken well of Queen Elizabeth. One quality she admires is her appreciation of simple pleasures. Behind the scenes, Catherine notes, "What resonates with me is her love of simple things."

She contrasts this with expectations of grandeur. As Camilla laid the wreath, she smiled slightly at Catherine on the way from the balcony, suggesting a warm relationship. However, Camilla showed signs of nervousness throughout the event, unable to keep completely still. At times, she spoke to Catherine while looking straight ahead. In contrast, Catherine displayed calm and composed body language, highlighting the difference between them. Camilla's nervous gestures were evident as she repeatedly fiddled with her handkerchief. Before Princess Diana's death, she called Camilla the "third person" in her marriage to King Charles. Due to this history, William and Prince Harry initially had misgivings about their stepmother. According to sources, Camilla and William have developed a positive relationship over time, suggesting that this change is due to Catherine accepting Camilla long before the royal family did.
