Prince William has taken on a new title Catherine is now known as the Princess of Wales, a title once held by her mother-in-law but there's a surprising secret you may not know she almost didn't get the traditional title given to the wife of the heir to the throne for a heartbreaking reason why as constant comparisons became too intense when the start of King Charles III's reign in September 2022 signalled a new chapter not only for the monarchy but also for his daughter-in-law, she became the Princess of Wales.

Catherine considered refusing a title when she married William, Catherine knew that one day she would have to follow in her late mother-in-law's footsteps but the prospect of becoming Princess of Wales was unappealing as she knew that she would inevitably be compared to Diana, which in time brought on a wave of anger and she was right the similarities and differences between the two women had been endlessly dissected and even loathed within the Royal Family. Catherine found all this talk so nerve-racking that she felt she might follow in Camila's footsteps.

The Duchess of Cornwall refused when it came time to be called Princess of Wales but William insisted that there was no pressure on his wife, explaining that as Catherine had said, it was about creating her own future. No one will try to fill my mother's shoes, what she did was amazing, it was about creating your own future and destiny and Catherine will do that very well although Catherine aka the new Princess of Wales appreciates the history attached to the role but it is understandable that she will want to look to the future as she forges her own path as William and Catherine navigate their new roles.

A royal source has stressed their commitment to building the trust and respect of the Welsh people over time. Prince William recently joined King Charles and Queen Camila at St. Gu's Cathedral in Edinburgh for the Order of the Thistle ceremony during Royal Week in Scotland. However in a notable absence Catherine remains at Windsor with their three children as she is currently going through a difficult personal process.
