Earthshot was founded by William in 2021 to find and develop solutions to the world's most pressing environmental problems. A new member of Earthshot's board is celebrity chef José Andrés, who is the first recipient of a grant from Harry and Meghan's Archewell foundation. The grant goes to his company, World Central Kitchen, a non-profit that provides meals to communities affected by natural disasters.

In a statement about his appointment, José Andrés said: "I am thrilled to join the Earthshot Prize Council to help showcase those who are pushing the boundaries of innovation around the world. In good times and bad, I have seen firsthand the power of food to heal and connect communities. Food is the best way to address some of the planet’s most pressing challenges, and I firmly believe that we must transform our food system to become more sustainable and equitable. There is so much we can do to inspire the world to see food as a powerful tool for innovation and change, and Earthshot’s solutions are at the forefront of this movement".

In the Archewell Impact Report 2020-2022, Chef Andrés had kind words for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex: "Harry and Meghan, my dear friends, you have brought hope to every community you have touched, always with a smile, always with compassion. Through your partnership with World Central Kitchen, sometimes a hot plate of food shows those in need how much we care".

José Andrés' appointment comes just days after William and Harry attended the funeral of their maternal uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, at St. Mary's Church in Snettisham, Norfolk. The brothers were seated separately at the service. The sad family event marked the first time the brothers have been seen together since the King's coronation in May 2023.

Harry is expected to travel to New York soon. Although the date has not been confirmed, the Duke's spokesperson said he will be in New York for the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week and Climate Week, which runs from September 22 to 29. Harry's New York visit coincides with the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, which will also take place in New York on September 24. However, William will not attend the event.
