2024 has been a challenging year for the Prince and Princess of Wales. As beloved members of the royal family, William and Catherine have faced many hardships and uncertainties.

Their popularity extends beyond their official roles, as the public is often curious about their lives behind the palace doors. This summer, Catherine has been enjoying a wonderful time with her children in Norfolk and Scotland. However, she is currently experiencing mixed emotions as a significant change approaches this week regarding her three children. Prince William recently made a surprise choice that left Catherine deeply emotional, bringing her to tears. The moment comes as she is facing what many consider to be one of the most difficult challenges of her life.

Like many parents in the UK, they are preparing their children for school. The new term starts on Wednesday, September 4, with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis returning to classes in Berkshire, starting Year 7, Year 5 and Year 2 respectively, according to Lam Brook School. While Catherine has cherished the time she has spent with her children, she will likely welcome the return to routine when they return to school. Like most mothers, she is likely to have mixed emotions as the holidays come to an end.

Caring for three children every day can be difficult, especially when dealing with the effects of cancer treatment. Despite this, both she and William have looked relaxed in recent photos. They appear to have enjoyed quality family time in Norfolk and Balmoral. Now, it's time to get back into the discipline of school routines of getting dressed, packing, completing homework and managing the drop-off and pick-up. The schedule will give Catherine some quiet time to rest without feeling guilty about not being with her children.

It will also give her the opportunity to continue working on her important campaigns and projects. Meanwhile, Kensington Palace announced that Prince William will have a private ceremony on September 10 after reuniting with Prince Harry. He will visit a school in South Wales, spend time at the air ambulance headquarters and attend a sporting event. His first stop will be Swiss Valley Community Primary School to attend a literary festival. He will then meet staff and crew at the Welsh Air Ambulance charity, of which he is a patron.

He will also visit Parc y Scarlets to recognise the contribution of women's players to Welsh rugby and meet the current women's international squad, who recently qualified for the 2025 World Cup. Catherine's return to public life remains uncertain due to her ongoing cancer treatment. She has made two notable appearances this year, at Trooping the Colour in June and the Wimbledon Men's Final in July. The couple have spent the summer holidays enjoying family activities, including visits to Amner Hall near Sandringham.

The family then joined King Charles and Camilla at Balmoral for their annual retreat, where William and Catherine attended a Sunday service at Crathie Kirk Church. William also attended the funeral of his late uncle, Sir Robert Fellowes, in Norfolk on 28 August, briefly reuniting with his brother, Prince Harry, who flew in discreetly from California.
