In a shocking development, the Croatian coastal town of Podgora was severely hit by a fierce storm that hit on Saturday afternoon. Croatia has been hit by severe flooding, affecting roads and homes in the coastal town of Podgora. A powerful storm hit on Saturday afternoon, bringing a staggering 143 litres of rain per square metre in just over an hour as part of a three-day Mediterranean storm.

The worst of the situation was felt in the Dalmatia region, particularly near Mcara, while heavy thunderstorms and hail also affected various areas. Reports indicate that Podgora was the worst affected, with the continuous rainfall leading to significant flooding.

Streets, courtyards, basements and even the town's famous promenade were submerged. Unofficial reports suggest that the floodwaters swept several vehicles into the sea. The persistent storm has caused major disruptions to the electricity supply, leaving around 3,000 households without power from East Podgora to Draenic.

The situation has worsened as ominous storm clouds gather over the Adriatic Sea, threatening to move towards areas already affected by flooding. Temperatures have also plummeted, from a warm 23°C to a chilly 12°C. Gan Basel, the local fire chief, described the situation as dire, noting that rescue teams are working hard to control flooding along the Mcara River.

Despite the chaos, the people of Podgora have remained calm; one local resident said that although it is still raining, the intensity has decreased and firefighters are working hard to tackle the flooding, preventing panic in the community.
